It’s been 3 months since I left Instagram and really, there’s only one thing I find myself missing…
Sharing food pictures.
I’m also bummed that the timing of getting cats lined up almost exactly with when I left Instagram, but it’s probably for the best. I’d be insufferable with the cat pics if I had a platform to instantly share them. My poor parents had to limit me to 1 FaceTime call per day to show off the cats because it was getting out of hand 😅
For the 4+ years I was active on IG, I heard from several people in my community that it was nice to see pictures of what I was eating, not for comparison, but for ideas.
We have to feed ourselves every single day for the rest of our lives, and it’s easy to fall into ruts with meals and snacks.
Sometimes, all it takes is someone posting a picture of their food to spark new inspiration.
Plus, I often think about this DM someone sent me years ago, saying that they appreciated how I didn’t post weird “diety" foods… just a dietitian eating normal food:
With that, here’s some food pics from my camera roll over the past few weeks.
1.) Walnut Fig Salad w/ Boursin Cheese & Shallots
I somehow had never had a fresh fig until I moved to CA last year and now I’m making up for lost time. Love putting them in salads, in my morning cheerios, and with cheese and crackers.
PF Changs Lettuce Wraps.
A client told me about this recipe (CW: some diety language used in this blog post) and I loved it. The author of the recipe raves about how “low carb” it is, which is exactly why I added rice— meals need carbs ti be satisfying!!
Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce.
A friend who's a vegetarian recently stayed with me for a week and we had so much fun making and eating these. I didn’t follow a recipe; I just cut up some veggies in long thin strips and fried some tofu then cut it in long thin strips. Then we assembled all the filling into a rice paper sheet, rolled it up, and ate them with a peanut sauce. For peanut sauce I mixed peanut butter, fish sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, chili flakes, brown sugar, and water. For veggies I did cucumber, peppers, cabbage, and cilantro.
Snack Plates
This one has Trader Joes Unexpected Cheddar Cheese, baguette, honey mustard pretzel thins, figs, raspberries, cucumbers and some Boursin cheese. For my taste preferences, the more items I can mix and match when eating, the better!
A Really Yummy Burger & Fries
A friend and I were on the way to go camping at some nude hot springs and we needed dinner on the drive up. Ate this burger, fries, and soda at a picnic table on a beautiful summer day with one of my BFFs. It was heaven.
Egg, Cheese, & Arugula Breakfast “Quesadilla”
A friend recently brought over this Chipotle mayo (he made us salmon using it as a marinade— so good) and I’ve been wanting to find more ways to use it. The other day, this idea came to me and it’s a new favorite. I just cook an egg, breaking the yolk, then transfer it to a tortilla with cheese and fry it. I add the arugula after it’s done cooking so it doesn’t get too wilted.
What do you think? Does seeing some food pics from my life help you? Should I share them more regularly here? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Okay and now for some cat pics:
Ruth (right) and Murray (left) *reluctantly* sharing the wall hammock
Ruth (top bunk) and Murray (bottom bunk) using their kitty tunnel/ donut thingy.
My partner, Al, holding little Ruthie and Ruthie looking up at him with adoration (Rue took more to Al and Murray took more to me).
Me and Mr. Murray cuddling on the couch.
